Prof Robert Nanima is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Criminal Justice and Procedure in the Faculty of Law, at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. The position builds on his deep-rooted commitment to human rights and legal reform, as evidenced by his scholarly contributions to the field.
He is also a member of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, Special Rapporteur on Children Affected by Armed Conflict and the Chairperson of the Working Group on the Implementation of Decisions and serves as a member of the Working Group on Children’s Rights and Climate Change. He has guided conversations on CAAC in Africa in various spaces in academia, with states, and among others. Notable engagements include the African Children's Committee, the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights, the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, the Peace and Security Council’s Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Global Affairs Canada, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UK’s Wilton Park and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research. Before joining academia, Robert was a prosecutor with the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Uganda for nine years.
